SI at the United Nations – What is our status and what does it mean?
The first time that non-governmental organizations were granted consultative status was in 1946 when Article 71 of the United Nations (UN) Charter opened the door for consultation with Non-Governmental Organizations. Initially, 41 organisations were chosen. Soroptimist International received General Consultative Status with the UN in 1987.
